Movements

Author: Dr Roger Gibson

Works of classical music are often divided periodically in to “movements”. If a piece of chamber music comprises, say, four “movements” any performance of it won’t be complete until the fourth movement ends.

The gaps between these “movements” are provided to give the members of the audience the chance to fart. No one wants a performance of some piece by Mozart interrupted by the noise of people blowing off. So when a movement, ends, the members of the audience may take their chance – letting their methane and hydrogen sulphide rip out - happy in the knowledge that their flatulence isn’t spoiling beautiful music.
